When I have a rock chip, this is the kit I look for but haven't been able to find recently. It contains a lot of resin, many times more than is needed for most stars and bullseyes. The instructions say to pull the plunger out and let the plunger snap back several times to press the resin in. What I do is after following the instructions a few times, I would also press down on the plunger for a few minutes to force as much resin as I can into the break. This usually gets the last bit of the lines filled out.
With cracks, you need several kits as unlike the professional equipment, you can't move this from hole to hole (for cracks you need to drill several holes along the cracks starting at the ends so it doesn't spread). It doesn't take too many kits before you're better off having a professional do it.
Another problem is that if the cracks gets to the surface which they will if you press on the glass from the inside, the resin just leaks out from the cracks and you're better off just moving the syringe along the crack instead of using the gasket and funnel. You can use transparent tape to try and seal up the cracks that make it to the surface but the adhesive gets dissolved by the resin so it gets messy after a while.
If you're trying to repair a crack, get one of those kits with a bridge that can be moved around or better yet have one of those roadside repair guys do the first repair try and just go in to do the voids that don't get filled in. They charge your insurance company so usually you're not out of pocket. Watch how the professionals drill the hole and you'll hear a pop when they break through the first layer into the plastic laminate area of the windshield and that's where they stop drilling, that's how you'll know when you've drilled far enough.
Even after these resins harden, you can still go back, drill another hole and get the voids missed in the first pass. Fresh resin will dissolve the hardened resin enough for the touch up passes. Remember that you can also press on the inside of the windshield to get the crack to crack all the way to the surface instead of drilling but then you have to either try taping it or sliding the syringe along the crack.
The proper way to drill into a crack is to drill it then take a punch and tap a bullseye into it. The round cracks of the bullseye relieves the stress so the cracks stop growing and makes certain you've broken into the crack for the resin to flow in. I'm a bit afraid to use the punch and I don't have a punch so I just drill. The guy at the roadside stand also just drilled (that disappointed me a bit, I wanted to see him tap a bullseye in).
I find this Loctite kit the easiest to use and the one that gives me the best results. The resin is thinner than the other kits and gets into the lines easier.
